Methods to Transfer iTunes Files to Another Computer

When you switch to using a new computer, the most important thing you need to do is transfer all iTunes files to the new Mac. However, transferring iTunes library from one computer to another one is not an easy task. In this tutorial, I will show you how to complete the transfer in two methods. Here you can choose your favorite one according to your condition and have a try.

Method 1: Transfer with Migration assistant directly

If you are to transfer your iTunes library from one Mac to a new Mac, you can try the transfer with the help of the OS X’s Migration assistant, which enables you to transfer files automatically. Here are the steps for you to complete the task:

Step 1: Firstly, you need to turn to “System Preferences” and click on the option of “Sharing“. Then please turn on the option of “File Sharing“.

Then please turn to your new Mac, which you are transferring files to. In the screen of the new Mac, you can see the address of your old Mac appears in the Shared section of the Finder sidebar. Please just choose it and then click “Connect As“.


Step 2: Now you can see a sign-in dialog, where you need to enter into your registered username and password. Then please tap the button “Connect“. After the connection, you can drag the whole iTunes folder to the same location on your new Mac. The program will do the sync for you automatically.



Method 2: Transfer your iTunes music to another Computer by iMusic

Step 3: After choosing “Export to Mac”, you will be asked to choose the location you like to store those playlists.
